Let there be Soul – once again!

2023 saw the release of Vienna-based band Bad Ida‘s debut album, which presented a truly remarkable musical style: an explosive mix of Soul, Funk, traditional R&B, and the absolute best that good old Blues Rock had to offer. It sounded familiar in the most positive sense, yet also completely new and hot, and then there was that voice that set this explosive mixture to fire with its first breath. The irresistible catchy melodies and the rhythmic drive left many inclined listeners with astonished, ecstatic facial expressions and only a single, rudimentary word articulated in their brains, which already had been swept clean of clear thoughts on the dance floor: WOW!

So, what is an artist expected to do after such a well-rounded and thoroughly successful start? The answer is plain and easy: just keep going when the perfect flow has already been so beautifully translated into groove-infested joy of playing. In 2025 the second attempt to get your ears and dancing feet properly on track has arrived. And this second album named Ending Things hits 180 right out of the gate: enriched with a subtle dash of Pop, another great record consistently nestles itself on the turntable.

Ines Dallaji's lyrics once again deal with big, not always happy emotions. Her perfectly aligned band brings them to thriving life – what a pleasure for any music infested audience!

Themes such as environmental destruction (“Red Flags”), the pressure of social media (“Age of Likes”), grief (“I Still Miss You”), overcoming fear (‘Fear’) and toxic relationships (“Remember My Love For You,” “Leave Me Alone”) lend the perfect pop sound a profound deepness: Bad Ida is much more than the superficial elegance and charming glamour often associated with the Soul genre.
